Special Selectboard Meeting

Present:  J. McDonough, R. Oliver, C. Todd, D. Benware (recorder)

 

Others:  Peg Oliver, Donna Pidgeon, John Hughes, Mary Hughes, Sid Glassner

 

Meeting reconvened (from Monday evening) at 9:37 a.m. by the Chair.

 

Business:

  1. Mrs. Oliver came to ask the Board to consider making a donation of $100 or $150 to help pay for the Steel Rall (Blue Grass Band from Rochester) band’s appearance, from approximately noon to 3:00 p.m., at the Flea Market/Bake Sale of June 17.  The Leicester Historical Society and the Leicester Community Connections will also be making similar donations to pay the band and for a port-a-potty to be used that day.  Vendors and other activities will also be available.  Decision to be made Monday evening.
  2. The Board was presented with documents seeking basic information for Unemployment Compensation for Frank Nicklaw.  Documents signed and ready for mail.

 

Budget process:  work continued on the Town portion of the budget, including a review of preliminary decisions that were made on Jan. 9.  Decisions yet to be made include finding a person to clean the Town Office and Meeting House, as needed.  Related items include needing a vacuum and cleaning tools (bucket, mop, etc.)  An additional $30,000 needs to be raised by taxes to fund the reappraisal that begins in April.  Discussed need for a new computer for Auditors, as the current one is 7 years old and is malfunctioning.

 

Discussion about how to provide on-the-job training for person(s) interested in assuming the position of Town Clerk.  Also discussion about the need to for competitive salary to attract good candidates for the position. 

 

The Selectboard will be meeting with representatives of the Brandon Fire Dep’t Prudential Board as well as the Whiting Fire Dep’t to negotiate costs related to fire coverage in town. 

 

The Board plans to meet Wed., evening, Jan. 18, to continue working on the budget.

It is hoped that there will be time Monday evening, at the regular meeting, to do more work on the budget.  Deadline is Friday, Jan. 20.
